Those in the habit of cutting corners on oilfield safety practices for the sake of saving time and money could learn a valuable a lesson from a Houston company that has been thriving on a philosophy built around maximizing workforce safety in the oilfield. Energy Services LLP was founded in 2006 and already has 34 facilities not including its 2 corporate offices located in Houston. The key to their fast growth lies in investments like a new safety and training facility called ‘Express University’, providing staff in entry level all the way up to advanced positions with training on driver safety, health, environmental safety and also leadership skills.

This year, Express Energy has landed itself on the Houston Business Journal’s Fast 100 list.

Although the thriving oil and gas industry has been fueling expansion at many Houston oilfield services companies, Energy Express Services LLP is also building safety into its growth strategy.

The company’s intent to focus on one of the key areas of the energy industry has helped Express Energy makes its debut this year on the Houston Business Journal’s Fast 100 list.

Founded in 2006, Express Energy operates 34 facilities in eight major basins and has two corporate locations in Houston, including a safety and educational training facility that opened in 2012. At “Express University,” new and existing employees may train from entry level to advanced programs, including driver safety; health, safety and environmental skills; and leadership, according to information on the company’s website.

Express Energy CEO Darron Anderson leads a team of 161 local employees. In June, Express Energy hired a new chief operating officer, David Brunnert, previously an executive at Houston’s Weatherford International Ltd. (NYSE: WFT).

This won’t be the first time Express Energy has been recognized by HBJ. In 2011, CFO Jim Davis took HBJ’s CFO of the Year award for a mid-cap private company. Davis retired in 2012, and John Beall was named the new CFO.

It’s still a secret where Express Energy and the other 99 private companies land on this year’s Houston Fast 100 list, which is ranked by revenue growth from 2010 to 2012, but the final results will be revealed at our awards event.
