On a busy day in February, one of our pipe storage partners
in Nisku who have been using Tallys to manage their drill
pipe and casing inventory for years processed over 96,000
meters of OCTG. If stacked vertically, that is enough pipe
to reach space, or more accurately, just 4 thousand meters
shy of the Karman line (or Kármán line), which astronomers
use to mark the unofficial beginning of outer space. If that
were a typical day, the pipe yard in question would be
shipping and receiving enough pipe to drill from one side
of the earth to the other nearly 3 times each year.
